The world’s economies are fossil fuel dependent. If we burn all coal, oil and gas’ identified reserves, Earth may warm by 8°C in less than a century, according to the most pessimistic projections. In this world, the human civilization would clearly be threatened and its economic and financial system wouldn’t be viable. In order to prevent dangerous anthropogenic interferences with the climate system, the IPCC’s scientists say global warming must be kept under the 2°C threshold before 2100.

This pedagogical app shows the carbon intensity of each country, the amount of unburnable fossil fuels and how states, investors and companies commit for preserving the climate.

Made of five chapters, this interactive map is telling the story of mankind facing its biggest challenge.
